The Knowledge Triangle refers to the systematic interaction between education, research and innovation. The concept was formalized by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) in 2006 (European Commission, 2006) and remains central to EU education policy.

This concept emphasizes a systematic and integrated approach to the interlinkage of education, research and innovation. It is closely related to concepts such as third mission, entrepreneurial university and triple helix, each emphasizing different actors and dimensions of this same interaction

Its core principle is that connecting education, research and innovation creates added value. By working together, these sectors ensure that knowledge stays aligned with current and future societal and economic needs (Unger & Polt, 2017). The Knowledge Triangle expands the impact of these three activities through systematic and continuous interaction.
